Cover of a book titled "A Royal Life Ropes and Lies" by Scarlett Marie, featuring a fairy sitting among leafless trees under a starry night sky.
  • Unlike the fairytales, Prince Sean and Princess Stephanie were never supposed to fall in love and live happily ever after, but they did try to. Now, three years after their messy and public break-up, their kingdoms are about to go to war. Sean could potentially stop the war if Stephanie reclaims her title as Princess – a title she gave up because of him.

When Sean moves to Rozalie, the one place he is forbidden to be, to find Stephanie and convince her to become a princess again, he meets Matt (the best-looking guy he’s ever met in his life). Sean doesn’t need anything else complicating his relationship with Stephanie, but things become tricky when Matt proves to be the man of Sean’s dreams.

Despite how Sean might feel about Matt, he has no hopes that it’ll last. What Sean doesn’t know, though, is that he can save his kingdom and live happily ever after with the love of his life. He just has to be willing to risk everything – including his own life – in the most unlikely way.

  • There's a good chance Prince Sean is going to become king. So that's what they say. If you ask Sean the answer is, 'No, it’s not going to happen,' because he knows becoming king will start a war. But life's plans don't always follow the smoothest course.

Sean is aware of this, but he's more worried about what life has planned for his relationship with Matt - a young, handsome man whom Sean has recently fallen in love with. Sean would very much like to keep Matt a part of his life, but their relationship is already feeling the strains from the royal life Sean must lead.

It doesn't help that Princess Stephanie (Sean's ex and competition for the throne) keeps popping into Sean's life at the most unexpected times. She for whatever reason won't leave him alone. However, she has good reason. Unlike Sean, Stephanie knows their future depends on them using their power of the five elements to defeat an incoming threat.

Unless they work together, they and everything they love in their world will perish.

About

As a true born creative, Scarlett has spent her whole life dabbling in the arts and craft, only to find her feet in the world of words whereby she has spent over ten years making stories come alive.

Her time and energy has been mainly spent on the series, A Royal Life, of which she started drafting when she was fifteen.

The life of a writer is not often documented, so in 2025, Scarlett began a podcast, Diary of a Writer, to help people understand what it’s like to live a creative life, fiddling with words all the time.

When she’s not busy writing, she’s usually trying to keep up with her children’s demands, share her lap with a cat and finish her cup of tea before it gets too cold.

Sometimes though, when she’s given up on all of that (the cat mostly, not the children) you’ll find her going for a walk or reading a book.

10 Quick Questions

1. Have you always wants to be a writer?

Not really. I’ve always had stories within me, but it’s taken me a lot of time and healing to accept that I want to be a writer and it’s okay to be so. There’s a lot of shame we carry around in wanting to do something that the world doesn’t appreciate or think is of value (hello phrase, you can’t make a living as an artist!)

2. Are you a coffee or tea drinker?

Neither? I know, I must be some kind of alien.

3. What is your favourite word?

Onion.

I love the curves in the letters.
Despite its very simple meaning, I just love the look of it.

4. What novel do you wish you could have written?

Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier.
It’s so good, I hate it.

5. What’s your favourite thing about being a writer?

Consistently seeing the alignments in life. It amazes me how something can happen in my life at the a time that influences something that is supposed to happen in the story I’m working on.

6. What’s your least favourite thing about being a writer?

The process. It’s long. Very long. And no matter how good you become at utilising the written word, the process doesn’t get easier. There’s a lot of figuring out of how the story is not supposed to be before you finally figure out how it’s meant to be.

7. If you were throwing a dance party for one, which song would you listen to?

I’m so unfaithful to music these days. I’m one of those people who have two of three songs on heavy rotation and then abandon them for a new set of songs that I like. It makes me intolerable to be in the car with, because yep, I’m playing those same three songs as much as I can.

8. As an Australian, how much do you unironically love Vegemite?

Quite a bit.

I mean, I only ever use a little bit, and there’s always lots of butter on my toast before I reach for the Vegemite jar. But it’s a staple in my diet.

9. What’s your ideal getaway?

Our planet has so many beautiful landscapes, it’s hard to pick. I’m as comfortable in a bustling city like Paris or London as I am sitting next to a waterfall in the middle of the bush or walking back and forth along a beach. My experience is, no matter where you travel to, you learn something new about yourself and grow and that to me is the priceless experience getaways provide.

 10. Where’s your favourite place to write?

My home because it’s quiet.

I don’t like listening to music when I’m writing, and though I have previously gone to cafes, I find it more convenient and comfortable to just write at home.
